BLM reopens Roan Plateau road near Rifle

RIFLE, Colorado ” The JQS Road north of Rifle is now open after the Bureau of Land Management completed repairs on the road. The agency closed the road in June because of debris slides and washouts caused from spring runoff.

According to the agency, the JQS Road is one of two public access routes to the top of the Roan Plateau. The road is very steep and narrow and has tight switchbacks, and is impassable when wet. Four-wheel drive vehicles are strongly encouraged, and trailers are not recommended, the BLM said.

The alternate route to the top of the Roan Plateau is Cow Creek Road, which is accessed off Rio Blanco County Road 5.
