BLM wants volunteers for bike trail near Grand Junction

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colorado – The Bureau of Land Management is looking for volunteers Oct. 4 to help build a new mountain biking trail in the Kokopelli Loops area, about 15 minutes from Grand Junction.The trail work is part of the BLM’s National Public Lands Day, and it’s sponsored by the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Association, Friends of McInnis Canyons and the BLM Grand Junction Field Office. The new trail will connect Mary’s Loop with other existing routes to provide more beginner and intermediate riding opportunities in the area.There will be a free barbecue at the end of the day. Volunteers also get breakfast snacks, T-shirts and other gifts.Volunteers should bring lunch, water, work gloves, sunscreen, bug repellent and sturdy boots or shoes. No experience is needed.Anyone interested should meet at the Kokopelli trailhead in Loma at 8:30 a.m. To get there, take exit 15 off of Interstate 70, head south, turn on the frontage road and follow signs for a half-mile to the Kokopelli trailhead.Volunteers can hike or bring their own bikes to reach the work site about two miles from the trailhead.
