BOCC will decide Monday whether to continue waste transfer hearing

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – The Garfield Board of County Commissioners has not formally decided whether to continue a public hearing scheduled for Monday, Nov. 19, regarding the IRMW/Mountain Roll-offs application for a solid waste transfer station, as was suggested in an article in the Nov. 15 Post Independent.

According to a statement from county officials, the commissioners did discuss the possibility of continuing the hearing a second time after an initial meeting in September. Because the matter was not on Tuesday’s BOCC agenda when the possible continuance was discussed, the board could not make any decisions.

The continued public hearing on the waste transfer application is still scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday.

“The commissioners will receive a request from county staff at that time to continue the hearing again, in order to review the additional information which has come into the county over the past few days,” according to the statement from the county.

“It will be up to the board to decide, on the 19th, whether or not to continue the hearing. It will also be up to the board whether or not they will take additional information into the record at that time; this includes additional presentation by staff, the applicant and additional public comment. They may choose not to take any additional testimony on the 19th.”

If the hearing is continued again, the applicant has expressed a desire to have the matter heard on Dec. 3. That date would be decided at Monday’s meeting.
