Body found near Rifle
RIFLE A fisherman called police after discovering a body floating in Rifle Creek Tuesday morning.According to Rifle Police Lt. J.R. Boulton, police were contacted about 9 a.m. Tuesday and responded to the scene near where the creek intersects Centennial Parkway (Highway 6 and 24), and confirmed that a male was found dead in the creek.Boulton said that Rifle Police called in the Garfield County Sheriffs Office Search and Rescue to retrieve the body. No cause of death has been determined at this time. Police are awaiting a autopsy report before releasing further information. The body was turned over to the Garfield County Coroners Office for identification to determine the time, cause, and manner of death. At this time it is unknown if foul play was a contributing factor police said. The coroners office said that they expect to have the report complete later this week.Boulton said that in cases like this its hard to determine just how long the body has been in the water. The water changes things, he said. To just walk up and say that hes been dead for this long is really hard to do.Contact John Gardner: firstname.lastname@example.org
