Boland does Gershwin in new CD
Carbondale pianist Clay Boland has a new CD, “Love Walked In: Piano Interpretations of Songs by Ira and George Gershwin, Vol. 2.”
He describes the disk as “a unique and non-generic blend of romantic jazz and sometimes classical styles.”
The Gershwin brothers were a songwriting team who lit up Broadway and Hollywood writing musicals and unforgettable songs such as “I Got Rhythm,” “‘S Wonderful” and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me.”
Boland was born in Philadelphia and worked for many years in New York City as a songwriter, arranger and pianist. He was also a teacher at Colorado Mountain College for many years.
He has played at the Hotel Colorado, and performed in jazz and classical concerts and as a soloist performing Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” Grieg’s A minor concerto and Mozart’s Concerto in G major.
His other recordings include “Bechstein and Boland,” “Steinway and Boland,” “Jazz Piano Improvisations,” “Santa’s Songbook,” and a collection of original compositions, “World Enough and Time.”
