At 2:30 p.m. today, Carbondale Police and Fire departments shut down Main Street at Weandt and Fourth and evacuated all public buildings in that area after finding a suspicious-looking small pipe on the Qwest property.

The Grand Junction Bomb Squad is en route to investigate the situation.

The evacuation is concsidered precautionary. Evacuees are asked to not enter the buildings for the next four hours. The Carbondale Middle School at 455 South Third Street has been designated as the emergency relocation center for anyone needing shelter.
