GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – A local judge cut in half the bond for David M. Edgar of Basalt, who is accused of selling marijuana and cocaine illegally from his medical marijuana center in Carbondale.

Ninth District Judge Denise Lynch on Tuesday agreed to reduce the amount that Edgar must pay to be released from jail, from $50,000 to $25,000.

Edgar’s attorney, Jesse Weins of Avon, noted that Edgar has lived in the area for more than a decade, has significant ties to the community and would only go home if released from jail.

Edgar is charged with eight felonies related to the alleged sale of cocaine and marijuana to undercover agents of the Two Rivers Drug Enforcement Task Force (TRIDENT).

According to police, the TRIDENT officers did not present a medical marijuana registration card before purchasing pot at Edgar’s store, the Mother Earth dispensary on Main Street in Carbondale, making the alleged sale a felony.

Prosecuting attorney Tony Hershey told the judge that, if convicted, Edgar may face decades in jail.

The dispensary is now closed, and all the medical marijuana items within it were seized by the Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division of the Colorado Department of Revenue, according to Weins.

Edgar’s next court appearance for a formal filing of charges will be on Oct. 19, before Judge James Boyd.
