Boycotting supermarkets hurts organic farmers

Dear Editor,

This is a letter in response to one sentence in Dr. Abba Krieger’s letter on Dec. 8. He writes, boycott your local supermarket and shop at the local health-food store. Just this week City Market has some great sales on organic produce. We carry organic items in every area, including meat. I have worked here for many years with many years being in the produce department, and I can tell you that items are being stocked by demand. By boycotting your supermarket that carries these organic items, you are hurting the farmers and companies that produce them. People trying to eat healthier need affordable access to these types of products. So support all businesses that are supporting the organic, non-genetically modified foods and nonfoods industry.

Sincerely,

Ann Szucs-Spencer
