Break-ins beset town

New Castle residents shouldn’t panic but they should be aware of what’s going on in their neighborhoods.Monday, a family reported a man who walked into their home uninvited while their daughter was home alone. The man left after seeing the young girl. Police arrested the man Tuesday, but no further details were available on the arrest.Saturday, a different man broke into a different home on Apache Road in New Castle. The suspect entered the house by kicking a door. He left when another young girl saw him in the house.Other break-ins have been reported in New Castle near country roads, said Dennis Mahan of the New Castle Police Department. The Garfield County Sheriff’s office is working in conjunction with the New Castle Police Department to investigate the break-ins.Break-ins in the valley are not uncommon and they are not unique to New Castle, said Bill Middleton, investigation sergeant.”We know there’s a lot of concern out there and we’re working on it,” Middleton said.Break-in targets are most often unlocked houses or cars and people need to start locking their doors and turning on lights, Middleton said.”We live in a day and age where you can’t leave things unlocked,” Middleton said. “It’s one reason we get a lot of intruders.”Contact Ivy Vogel: 945-8515, ext.
