Bridging the funding gap on Highway 133

Dear Editor,Carbondale town planner Mark Chain and assistant town manager Bentley Henderson are to be commended on their hard work to find a solution for paying for the upgrading of the bridge over the Roaring Fork River and the necessary widening of Highway 133 through our community. Many of us share their frustration. You are both aware, I am sure, how some of our larger communities are resorting to raising money for their operating budgets by wheeling and dealing for the naming rights to certain sports facilities, etc.Well, I would like to offer this suggestion to you and the town of Carbondale. Focus on this scenario for the bridge and the stretch of Highway 133 through our town. Just think, maybe someday we’ll call this stretch of highway “Gianinetti Boulevard” or the “Lafarge Bridge.”Other possibilities are the “River Valley Ranch Boulevard” or “RVR Boulevard,” or the “Mason & Morse Boulevard,” or maybe even the “Crystal Marketplace Boulevard?”However, please be judicious with the possibility for this naming right opportunity. We definitely don’t want a “Pepsi Boulevard” or the “Grand Junction Pipe Co. Boulevard.” This would be really confusing for our visitors, who will wonder where the heck they really are!I hope this suggestion has been of some encouragement to you and again, I wish you well in this endeavor.Sincerely yours,Chris ChacosCarbondale and Fountain Hills, Ariz.
