Buckle up, kids

Kathy Davison

Dear Editor,

This message goes out to all high school students, especially the students of Rifle High School.

As I was helping out with parking lot duty, I watched many of you leaving for the weekend in various vehicles – smiling, talking, glad it was a Friday. Many of you waved, and I found myself afraid for you and your families. You couldn’t hear me through the rolled up car windows, but I was reminding the majority of you that you did not have your seat belts on!

I know nothing usually happens, but what if that moment occurs?

In a split second, while you are smiling, talking, and listening to your favorite music, an accident could cause damage to your life, or you could die. Lives are changed forever.

Your friends will miss you and weep, and your family will deeply grieve with a hole in their hearts forever, a precious part missing.

The world will be less of a place without you.

Please remember, buckle up, always wear your seat belt. Someone cares, someone will miss you, and someone loves you dearly.

For Eli (my precious son and a former Rifle High student), we miss you tremendously and love you dearly.

Kathy Davison
