Roger Day was elected 2011 Chairman of the National Oil Shale Association (NOSA) at its board of directors meeting on Dec. 9. Roger is vice president of American Shale Oil LLC (AMSO) and heads up oil shale operations for AMSO’s BLM Oil Shale Research Development and Demonstration (RD&D) lease in Colorado. AMSO’s office in Rifle is near the site of its RD&D lease in the Piceance Basin. AMSO is a joint venture between IDT Corp. and TOTAL.NOSA’s outgoing chairman, Gary Aho, has led the organization for three years during which time NOSA has become the best source of credible information on oil shale in the United States. Gary is president of Sage Geotech, an energy and mining consulting firm headquartered in Rifle. Aho, a 35-year oil shale veteran, consults for a number of companies and serves as vice president of operations for Oil Shale Exploration Co.The National Oil Shale Association is a nonprofit corporation that disseminates factual information about oil shale. NOSA advocates energy conservation and responsible development of oil shale and all other domestic energy sources, both fossil and renewable, to reduce the risks to the national security and the economy that come with excessive reliance on imported oil.

Aspen Tan officially opened its second tanning salon in the valley on Nov. 30. There are now salons in both Aspen and Glenwood Springs. The new salon is located at the Glenwood Meadows shopping center by Target.This is the second salon opened by owners Adam Lang and Peyton Peeples in the past 18 months. They are both younger than 30, giving a positive example of what young and motivated entrepreneurs can accomplish during the current economic struggle.
