Byrd watching at the Garfield County Fair
RIFLE – Expect something a little “different” from country star Tracy Byrd Saturday night at the Garfield County Fair.Byrd, the Texas native headlining the concert that also features the Little River Band and Denver country crew Derringer, will play songs from his latest CD release, “Different Things.” The album is an eclectic mix of clever country lyrics and western swing that Byrd says covers “a vast landscape of musical and emotional terrain.”Byrd was inducted into the Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Fame in 2005.Byrd is best known for hits such as “Watermelon Crawl,” “The Truth About Men,” “Keeper of the Stars,” and “Holdin’ Heaven.”The Little River Band, whose total worldwide record sales have passed $25 million since forming in the 1970s, will also play. The band is known for smash hits including “Reminiscing and Lady,” “The Night Owls” and “Take It Easy On Me.”Derringer kicks off the country music party with originals and covers. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. The band has played Country Jam in Grand Junction with country music megastar Kenny Chesney and opened for the late singer Chris LeDoux at the Garfield County Fair.Derringer recently played the Buffalo Valley in May.General admission tickets for Saturday’s show are $25 and reserved seating is $40. A family pass is $20 for each general admission ticket with purchase of four or more at ticket outlets with coupon from tray liners at McDonald’s Restaurants in Rifle or Glenwood Springs.

Senior PeeWee Classic, PeeWee Show: 5:30 p.m., Senior Show, 6 p.m., indoor arena, Fairgrounds. For those too young or too old to show with 4-H or FFA. 4-H/FFA Parade of Champions: 6:50 p.m., CPRA Rodeo, 7 p.m., Fairgrounds outdoor arena.
Round Robin Competition: 8 a.m., winners of 4-H compete in overall showmanship competition, indoor arena, open to public. Garfield County Fair Parade: 10 a.m., Railroad Ave. Buyers BBQ: 11:30 a.m., Event Hall, for livestock buyers at Junior Livestock sale, exhibitors and invited guests. 4-H/FFA Junior Livestock Sale: 1 p.m. Concert: Tracy Byrd & Little River Band, opening band Derringer, 6:30 p.m., Fairgrounds.
