C-dale entrance to close 5 nights

CARBONDALE, Colorado ” The Roaring Fork River Bridge at the intersection of State Highway 133 and Highway 82, the entrance to Carbondale, will be closed at night from Monday, March 24, through Friday, March 28. The closures will start at 8 p.m. each night with the town entrance reopening at 5 a.m. the following mornings.

The closures are necessary to allow Colorado Division of Transportation crews to set new steel bridge girders for the bridge reconstruction. CDOT and project contractor Sema Construction Inc., have scheduled this work to be performed during a low-volume traffic period at night to avoid closing this critical intersection during the daytime peak traffic times. Additional night closures are expected at this location throughout the project.

Motorists traveling upvalley are advised to use Westbank and Hardwick Bridge roads to reach Carbondale from eastbound Highway 82. Downvalley traffic is advised to use the Catherine Store Road for town access from westbound Highway 82.

Traffic impacts are anticipated to be minimal for majority of the bridge reconstruction project, but alternate routes are advised to avoid delays. The current two-lane configuration at the entrance to Carbondale will be maintained until the completion of the project scheduled for Dec. 1, 2008.
