The Garfield Re-2 School District would like to invite the public to meet the final candidates for the Garfield Re-2 assistant superintendent position. The event will be held on at 6:30 tonight at the Garfield Re-2 District Office, 839 Whiteriver Ave.

The three finalists are Heather Grumley from New Castle, Stott Mader from Trinidad, and Fletcher Turcato from Rawlins, Wyoming.

Grumley is currently the principal of Graham Mesa Elementary School in Rifle. Prior to becoming principal, she was an instructional coach at Elk Creek Elementary and Kathryn Senor Elementary schools. She has also served as an elementary instructor at Roy Moore Elementary and Kathryn Senor Elementary. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and literature from the University of Puget Sound, and a master’s in elementary education from Colorado College.

Mader is currently the Superintendent in Trinidad School District 1 in Trinidad, a position he assumed after six years as the South Routt School District superintendent in Oak Creek. Mader has served as principal at The New America School in Aurora, superintendent at Hayden School District, and principal of Ft. Lupton High School in Ft. Lupton. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Chadron State College, a master’s degree in secondary school administration from Chadron State and an educational specialist degree in school administration from the University of Wyoming.

Turcato’s most recent position was as Carbon County School District 1 superintendent in Rawlins, Wyoming. He was principal at Pinedale High School in Pinedale, Wyoming, and assistant principal at Clark High School in San Antonio and Medina Valley High School in Castroville, Texas. Turcato began his education career teaching social studies at both the middle and high school levels after a successful military career in the Marines. He holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Wyoming, a master’s degree in education leadership from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and a doctorate degree in education administration and supervision from Walden University.

Garfield Re-2 had 22 applicants for the assistant superintendent position from all over the country. The new assistant superintendent will take over for Dave Lindenberg, who resigned earlier this year. Lindenberg will become the Sopris Elementary principal in Glenwood Springs next school year.

The public will have the opportunity to meet with the candidates tonight, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Each candidate will have the opportunity to make a general statement and answer a few general questions. The rest of the time will be spent meeting with community members and parents.
