Canyon bike path weekday closure

The Glenwood Canyon bike path just west of the Hanging Lake Tunnels is now closed on weekdays for sandblasting operations.

Work currently is under way to remove soot resulting from a December tanker fire on Interstate 70. The cleanup includes the bike path, highway bridge substructure and retaining walls. Work is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The path remains open elsewhere in the canyon and through the work zone after 5 p.m. and on weekends.

The closure remains in effect through April, possibly continuing for a longer period.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said it apologized for the inconvenience, but safety requires the closure due to the close proximity of the sandblasting work and equipment on the path.
