Carbondale firefighters put out house fire

A fire that started on the back deck of a home east of Carbondale early Saturday was put out within 30 minutes, according to Carbondale Fire Chief Ron Leach.

No one was injured and the house did not burn down, but the structure was heavily damaged by the fire, Leach said.

The fire occurred at a single family home on Gambel Oak Court in the Blue Creek Ranch subdivision east of Carbondale, near Catherine Store.

“The cause is still undetermined, but it was not suspicious,” Leach said.

The residents of the home called 911 at 12:45 a.m. to report the fire. Firefighters arrived within five minutes, and the first fire engine arrived 10 minutes later.

A total of three fire trucks, one ambulance and 16 firefighters responded to the scene, along with assistance from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department.

“The Carbondale firefighters did a heck of a job in extinguishing this house fire in a safe and efficient manner,” Leach said.
