Carbondale website really clicks with its designer

Innovative ideas and simple navigation has put among the state’s most impressive websites.

The Carbondale town government, which has for six years had an admittedly ordinary town website, teamed up with the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce to create a dynamic, informative site that’s as handsome as it is functional.

The site was unveiled during Friday’s “Wired in the Roaring Fork Valley” seminar to rave reviews.

“What I love about the design is it’s clean, it’s scalable and it’s navigable,” site designer Chris Lawrence said. “One of my goals is simplicity in navigation.”

The site went online Wednesday. It provides heaps of information about everything from Board of Trustee agendas to a calendar of events to restaurant descriptions.

But there is much more to come, Lawrence said.

“My vision is to have an all-encompassing site,” Lawrence said. “This website is actually a dream of mine, a dream come true.”

She envisions putting in links to local websites, as well as restaurant menus and other useful information.

Lawrence is not only the site’s designer, but owner of the domain name She has carefully held onto the name so it wouldn’t get pilfered by cybersquatters.

“I like to get somewhere in three clicks,” Lawrence said. If a surfer hasn’t found something by then, she said, “you’ve lost them.”

“The chamber has really put themselves ahead of the curve” by offering the website, she said. “I think it’s a very innovative partnership.”
