Cardinals boys, girls top Basalt

PARACHUTE, Colorado – The Grand Valley High School boys and girls both closed out the 3A Western Slope League basketball season with wins Tuesday night against visiting Basalt.

The Lady Cardinals won handily, 72-30, to finish at 12-4 in the league heading into next week’s district tournament behind Olathe and league champion Moffat County.

Four Grand Valley players finished in double figures on the night, including Haley Johnson with 16, Jordan Scott with 15, and Lauren Paskett and Kyra Chenoweth each with 12.

Meanwhile, the Grand Valley boys used a 17-8 fourth quarter to corral the Longhorns, 50-36.

Trent Reidle scored 20 points for the Cardinals. Tyler Scott chipped in 12.

It was the fifth win in a row for the Cardinals, who finish the regular season at 6-10 in the league and 6-13 overall. Basalt dropped to 5-12 overall and 4-10 in the league.
