Cards drop heartbreaker to Hotchkiss

PARACHUTE, Colorado – Matt Donello couldn’t pull it off twice.

After his 3-pointer with 40 seconds left tied Friday’s game against visiting Hotchkiss, the Grand Valley boys basketball player missed a desperation triple with time expiring as the Cardinals fell to the visiting Bulldogs, 49-46.

“We played about as hard as a team can play,” Grand Valley head coach Jake Higuera said. “We just came up a little short. I’ve proud of these guys.”



Donello led the Cardinals, 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the 3A Western Slope League, with 11 points. Tyler Radel had eight.

PARACHUTE, Colorado – Tiffany Waugh scored 15 points and Erin Vanderpool had 13 as Grand Valley’s girls basketball team defeated visiting Hotchkiss, 49-39, on Friday.



The Cardinals, now 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the 3A WSL, outscored the Bulldogs 22-7 in the fourth quarter to escape with the win.

EDWARDS, Colorado – Kenzie Kuhn’s 23 points led Glenwood Springs’ girls basketball team to a 64-26 win at Battle Mountain on Friday.

Lexie Warkentin added 15 points for the Demons, now 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the 4A WSL. Connor Adams chipped in with nine points and Cassidy Gaddis had seven.

EDWARDS, Colorado – Glenwood Springs scored an 85-60 boys basketball win at Battle Mountain on Friday.
