Cash mob the Crystal, Springs, Movies at the Mall theaters

Local movie theaters are facing a do-or-die situation. And we may be able to help.

Within a few years, the film industry expects that all movies will be distributed in a digital format.

Gone will be the reels of film threaded through a projector. And gone will be the theaters themselves if they can’t afford to make the transition to digital, which could cost as much as $100,000 per screen.

In our area, the owners of the Crystal Theater in downtown Carbondale, The Springs Theater in downtown Glenwood Springs, and Movies at the Mall in the Glenwood Springs Mall must either make this large investment or drop the curtain.

If you still enjoy the experience of seeing films on the big screen, crying and laughing with fellow movie-lovers, then grab friends and family, head to the theater and buy some popcorn and Jujubes.

Let’s start a cash mob this fall and winter to support these local, family-owned businesses that may be forced to close without an influx of cash.

Let’s show the theaters how much we value them, and encourage them to do what they need to do to stay in business.
