Grand Funk Railroad will play the Rifle Rendezvous Festival next Saturday, May 22.Grand Funk was formed in 1969 out of the ashes of Flint, Michigans Terry Knight & The Pack.The group currently includes original founding members Don Brewer on vocals and drums, and Mel Schacher on bass. Joining Brewer and Schacher are Max Carl (38 Special, Jack Mack and the Heart Attack, Max Carl and Big Dance), lead guitarist Bruce Kulick (12 years with KISS and credits with Michael Bolton, Meatloaf, and Billy Squire), and keyboardist Tim Cahion (Bob Seger and Robert Palmer).Through the 70s Grand Funk Railroad set records for album sales and concert attendance. Those who may not remember the Grand Funk Railroad name are sure to have heard their first number one hit, Were an American Band, and later Some Kind of Wonderful and Im Your Captain/Closer to Home.VH1 debuted a Grand Funk Railroad Behind the Music in 1999.Mack Daddy, a Western Slope band, will open for Grand Funk Railroad, with classic rock tunes. Mack Daddy has played Dandelion Days, Taste of Carbondale, the Boulder Gothic, and Soiled Dove in Denver.
