CDOT installing traffic cameras around Glenwood

In preparation for the upcoming project to replace the Grand Avenue Bridge, the Colorado Department of Transportation will install temporary traffic cameras at 13 intersections on Highway 82 through Glenwood Springs.

The intersections include those north of the Interstate 70 interchange (Sixth Avenue at both Pine and Laurel streets) and south through town to Blake Avenue.

Twenty-two cameras, similar to GoPros, will be installed at the intersections to record side-street traffic queues and wait times. In addition, traffic engineers will be driving the corridor at various times of the day to record wait times and traffic flow on Highway 82.

“The purpose of our study is to determine travel times from I-70 to Blake Avenue, on both SH 82 and all side streets at signalized intersections,” CDOT Region 3 Traffic Engineer David Oldham said. “We will use this information when planning for construction on the Grand Avenue Bridge, as well as for future signal timing adjustment.”

Camera installation will begin Wednesday, and they will be removed the following Sunday or Monday. Motorists can expect little or no impacts to their travel during the work, CDOT said.
