Chamber extends Strawberry Days online theme poll through Friday
An online poll to pick the theme for the 2011 Strawberry Days has been extended to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 11.
The Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association wants the community to help select the theme. The Chamber’s Strawberry Days team gathered more than two dozen theme suggestions from its Facebook page, and chose three finalists. They are:
1. “Life is Just a Bowl of Berries,” reminiscent of a song popular in the 1930s and the 1950s, called “Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries.” The song lyrics are significant during this economy. They suggest that we not take life so seriously, since we can’t take it with us, so “live and laugh at it all.” This theme was suggested by Christie Cline.
2. “Life’s a Beach … on the Roaring Fork River,” based on a variation of themes suggested by Pat Hansen, a rafting and river aficionado and owner of Glenwood Canyon Rafting, who thinks “the river rocks!”
3. “There’s No Place Like Home,” suggested by Joyce Webb, a former Strawberry Days arts fair coordinator. The theme could be interpreted as homage to “The Wizard of Oz,” but also reminds us that many former residents come home for Strawberry Days – and there is no better place than Glenwood Springs to live.
Vote for your favorite theme via the Chamber’s Facebook poll at facebook.com/gwschamber, online at strawberrydaysfestival.com, or via the Post Independent’s weekly poll at http://www.postindependentcom > Opinion > Polls.
The person who suggested the winning theme will receive a special Strawberry Days basket. The 114th annual Strawberry Days will be June 17, 18 and 19.
