Charles Edward Hinman

Charles Edward Hinman of Albuquerque, N.M., died Wednesday, March 27, 2002. He was 94.

Mr. Hinman was born Aug. 4, 1907, in Green River, Utah, to George Alanzo and Violet Grace Gibson Hinman, and was raised in Glenwood Springs, Colo.

He married Doris F. Hemphill on Aug. 14, 1933, in Aspen, Colo. In 1938, he graduated from Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., with a degree in education.

Mr. Hinman taught for more than 20 years at the Amache Japanese Internment Camp and at the Albuquerque Indian School.

He loved music, photography, camping and his family, and was a 70-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He traveled extensively throughout North America, and used to hike from Glenwood Springs to Deep Lake.

He is survived by: wife Doris Hinman; daughters and sons-in-law Kay and Jim Kitts, of Albuquerque, and Joyce and Bill Coffey, of Rock Springs, Wyo.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and by nephews Michael Hurst and Nick Hurst, of Glenwood Springs, and Gary Hurst, of Boulder, Colo.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held in Albuquerque. His remains will be scattered in the family plot in Glenwood Springs.
