Chimera has the whole world in its songs

Chimera is a modern world music group that combines flamenco, pop, jazz and bossa nova with African rhythms and elements of South American and world music. The group uses nylon guitar, hand percussion, bass, keyboard and accordion to create a flexible, rich sound with the inviting twist of the American Southwest. Throw in a stunning vocal on top, and you’ve got Chimera, which will play Friday at Colorado Mountain College’s Spring Valley Campus. The music is a combination of newly arranged jazz standards, originals and instrumentals by some of the most talented and accomplished musicians in the Southwest. The group hails from Santa Fe, N.M., and is coming to the Roaring Fork Valley as part of CMC’s Jim Calaway Honor series. The series, created in 1999, pays tribute to individuals who make a difference at CMC. What: ChimeraWhere: Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley CampusWhen: 7 p.m. Friday
