Bell choir performs



The adult bell choir and chancel choir perform at the Congregational Church of the Valley in New Castle Sunday, March 24. For times, call 984-2232.

Holy Week continues with a Maundy service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28. On Good Friday, March 29, the church will be open for everyone for prayer or meditation regardless of church affiliation.



On Easter Sunday, March 31, services will be held at the New Castle Cemetery at 6:30 a.m. The theme will be “I Was Blind, But Now I See.” Bring a blanket and a blindfold. At 8 a.m., the congregation will participate in the sermon “Lazarus Come; Out of the Tomb.” Traditional worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. Easter breakfast is served by the men of the church at 9 a.m.

The church is located one block north of Main Street on Sixth Street.

Passion Play presented

The Aspen Chapel presents The Passion Play, which includes a vocal quartet with oboe, at 9:30 a.m., Sunday March 24. The quartet will perform the works of Rutter, Bach and Tallis, and feature Kathy Pelowski, Cathy Markle, Jeff Bestic, Scott MacCraken and Susan Nicholson. A reception follows the service. An informal discussion of the day’s theme follows from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Nursery school and Sunday school is offered during the services.

Holy Week observed

Basalt Community United Methodist Church holds Palm Sunday services at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, March 24.

Maundy supper and worship is at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 28.

On Friday, March 29, the church will be open for individual prayer from noon to 3 p.m., and a Tenebrae worship service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, March 31, a sunrise service with breakfast will be held at 7 a.m., followed by a 9:30 a.m. worship service, an Easter egg hunt at 10:30 a.m., and a final worship service at 11 a.m.

Methodists list services

The First Methodist Church of Glenwood Springs holds Palm Sunday services at 10:30 a.m., March 24. Holy communion will be given at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28. Tenebrae service will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 29. Easter Sunday services are held March 31 at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with a potluck breakfast at 9:15 a.m. (bring your own table setting) and Easter egg hunt at 9:45 a.m.

Seders conclude

The Tri-Community Parishes of Silt and Parachute celebrate Passover with their final Seder meals at St. Brendan Parish in Parachute, at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 25.

A new Havurah is being planned for Glenwood Springs.

Easter sunrise

service at Sunlight

Sunlight Mountain Resort will host a nondenominational Easter sunrise service on March 31, conducted by the Rev. Mike Ferguson.

Lifts open at 7:30 a.m. for guests wishing to attend the service.

Lift tickets are not required to access the lifts for the sunrise service, but will be required once the lifts open at 9 a.m. for the regular ski day. Those attending the service must be prepared to ski or snowboard down the mountain.
