GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” This next night at Summer of Jazz won’t be a quiet one. The Cindy Blackman Quartet will make sure of it.

A former street performer and Berklee College of Music student, Black is one powerful drummer. For years, she was adding the driving beat behind such famous voices as Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson and Cassandra Wilson.

In recent years, she’s released several CDs and even an instruction video on how to play the drums. While she’s done rock ” even playing with Lenny Kravitz for more than a decade ” it’s jazz that’s her first love.

And that’s just what she’ll be bringing to Glenwood this Wednesday. As always, the show starts at 7, and it’s free and open to everyone. While you’re there, make sure to pick up a $5 raffle ticket for the bicycle, popping with color, that Mary Noone decorated. D
