City Council challengers will listen

Roland C. Fischer

Dear Editor,

This is about taking our town back. The majority of the current City Council refuse to listen to the citizen taxpayers.

They refuse to let the citizens vote on a massive debt into the unlimited future by using certificates of participation (COPs) for unneeded amenities, primarily for a golf course.

Their own report by THK Associates of Nov. 20, 2000, says a course will not pay its way in this market (page 59). So far the cost of the golf course has increased by $2 million and is climbing.

Three geologic reports emphasize that serious geologic problems will impact structures and cause dangerous debris flows to continue on this land. Then add costs for an unneeded kayak run, a dog park (duh!) and what else? All without a vote.

The two candidates for re-election won’t tell you they voted for COPs debt, intentionally preventing a vote by the people. A vote for them means more of the same. The Community Center and the city’s high-speed Internet require taxpayer subsidies. How much? Do you know?

The big out-of-town developers continue to make demands, and the current council just gives them what they ask for.

But all of these are symptoms of the basic problem, which is that they refuse to listen. We need a council that listens to the voters.

Let’s take our town back! Start by voting for Joe O’Donnell. He will listen to us.

Very truly yours,

Roland C. Fischer
