City Council should respect golf course vote

Dear Editor,

A month later and I am still in shock at the City Council’s action on funding the golf course, or was that the excuse used to get the money to keep the pool from sinking?

At any rate I do not think the five council persons acted appropriate in any way, shape or fashion. Nineteen people speaking against it versus a few for it should have been reason enough to back up and take another look at it, especially since on June 15, 1991, 616 voters said “no” to the golf course. To my knowledge, no election has over turned that election.

Did I understand a recent article to say the mayor directed the city staff to run a study and determine the use of the airport ground? Hold it, on May 20, 1997, 2,106 voters said the airport stays the airport, and no one except the voters should touch that decision.

The vote is precious to me. At least 650,606 have died in combat, another 489,585 in other service-connected deaths and 2.5 received non-mortal wounds protecting our right to vote and that vote to be counted and respected by everyone regardless of their self-appointed agenda.

How can anyone, after all that loss of precious, priceless life, grief, pain and suffering, say it doesn’t count, because the interest rates might go up.
