City street sees spewing sewage

A city sewer line on upper Pine Street in Glenwood Springs became clogged Wednesday afternoon, causing sewage to rise up and flow down the street.

According to a city utility worker on the scene, an eight-inch line became blocked, and the raw sewage was forced up and out of the pipe. The leak occurred about two blocks uphill from the Hotel Colorado.

The blocked line was due to be replaced this spring, the worker said.

Workers had the malodorous mess – which one witness said stretched about 10 feet across the street at its peak – cleaned up in short order and kept a pump truck on hand while the pipe was unclogged.
