Clinetop Road northwest of New Castle closed through October 7

RIFLE, Colorado ” The White River National Forest will be closing the Clinetop Road (Forest Service Road 603), northwest of New Castle, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., from Sept. 15 through Oct. 7. The closure is for public safety while log trucks are on the road.

The gates will be closed and locked on the top and bottom of Forest Service Road 603 during these times. The Forest Service encourages people to call the day before to check if closure will be in effect for the following day. Closure days may be intermittent depending on the weather and loggers’ schedules. Please contact Barb Suits at the Rifle Ranger District at 625-6848 for the most current information.

Closures will occur while logging trucks are hauling logs from the Cow Camp timber sale above the Clinetop Road. The timber ” mostly aspen, with some spruce, fir and lodgepole pine ” will be shipped to mills in Delta and Montrose to become dimensional lumber. About 500 truckloads will be removed from the area over the next couple of years.

There will be signs at the base of the road at the junction of county roads 243 and 226, notifying the public that the road is closed. Please visit http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/whiteriver for more information about your national forests.
