Clinics across county to offer dog licenses

The newly passed Garfield County Animal Control Resolution requires all dogs residing in the unincorporated areas of the county must be licensed. A clinic today will help owners meet that requirement.

“We’re just doing what we can do to help it in one stop,” Peter Langegger, a vet at Divide Creek Animal Hospital in Silt, which will host the first clinic today from 9 a.m. to noon. The hospital is at 0470 County Road 311.

“We’re expecting a whole lot of people and we’ll try to do as much as we can. I’ll do rabies shots for sure, and everything’s offered at a discount.”

In the interest of public health and safety, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office will hold a series of licensing and vaccination clinics throughout the county. Future clinics will be held at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center on Sept. 24; High Tails, Inc. in Glenwood Springs on Oct. 15; and the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Rifle on Nov. 12.

Senior discounts and activities for kids will be available at the clinics. License fees are $10 and are valid for up to three years, or are concurrent with a dog’s rabies vaccination.
