Coal Ridge girls in district semifinals

PEACH VALLEY, Colorado – Coal Ridge’s girls basketball team is headed to the 3A Western Slope League district tournament semifinals.

Getting contributions from all corners of the roster, the Titans scored a 39-31 win over Cedaredge in the first round of the tourney on Tuesday.

Brianna Rhodes, Carly Cloninger and Tori Verdieck scored eight points apiece for Coal Ridge, which improved to 11-9. Ashlie Bowles finished with five points and Chasity Gonzales with four.



The Titans held Cedaredge to just six points in both the first and second quarters.

Caitlin Walker led the Bruins with 10 points. Rachelle Litsheim scored five.



Next up for Coal Ridge is a Friday date with league champion Olathe. The Pirates claimed a 58-33 win over Gunnison on Tuesday.

District tournament semifinal games will be held at Palisade High School on Friday, with Coal Ridge and Olathe tipping off at 6:30 p.m.

PARACHUTE, Colorado – Getting 18 points from Karmen Steimel, 13 from Erin Vanderpool and 11 from Tiffany Waugh, Grand Valley’s girls claimed a 52-33 win over visiting Aspen in Tuesday’s district opener.

The Cardinals will face Hotchkiss in the semifinals at Palisade on Friday. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.

Hotchkiss defeated Basalt by a count of 54-31 on Tuesday.
