After a lengthy interview and hiring process that included a meet and greet with students and parents at the school, Coal Ridge High School has named Dr. Jackie Davis its next principal. The decision was finalized at Tuesday’s Garfield Re-2 Board of Education meeting.

“Welcome Jackie, and we’re pleased to have her carry the torch for the Titans,” Re-2 Superintendent Brent Curtice said at the meeting. “Now your work really begins.”

Last Thursday and Friday, the two principal finalists, Davis and Green Mountain High School Assistant Principal Tim McNerney, participated in a two-day interview process, which included an interview panel of students, teachers, staff and parents.

All of the participants provided feedback for Curtice to review.

“Coal Ridge High School is already an amazing place to be and work and I feel honored to be able to take it to new heights. We have an exceptional staff who go above and beyond for our students every day. I look forward to working with all staff, students and community as we pursue educational excellence.”— Jackie DavisCoal Ridge High School incoming principal

“Dr. Davis has a deep knowledge of the Silt and New Castle communities, Coal Ridge High School and the goals of the district,” Curtice stated in the district’s press release. “She has an unparalleled passion for the students, staff and families of CRHS and coupled with her expertise in curriculum and instruction, I know that there are great things ahead for Coal Ridge High School.”

Davis has spent 15 of her 21 years of public-school experience with Re-2 as a science teacher at Rifle Middle School and Coal Ridge.

She helped open the high school in 2005 and served as an academic coach before becoming assistant principal.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Adams State University, a secondary science teacher endorsement from Mesa State College, a Master of Arts in education: curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix, and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix.

She also worked for six years in the Meeker School District.

“Coal Ridge High School is already an amazing place to be and work, and I feel honored to be able to take it to new heights,” Davis said in the press release. “We have an exceptional staff who go above and beyond for our students every day. I look forward to working with all staff, students and community as we pursue educational excellence.”

Davis will take over for current principal Rick Elertson, who resigned earlier this year. Elertson will leave at the end of the 2016-2017 school year.
