College bound athlete: Garrett Hatch

Glenwood Springs High School graduate Garrett Hatch recently signed up to play baseball at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. There, he will likely play catcher and pitch some.Below is a brief Q&A with Hatch about his decision to head to Northeastern JC:
“I don’t know what I’m going to major in right now. I was thinking about becoming a teacher, going into education. I’ve kind of rethought that. I think I might go into renewable energy, like solar or turbine energy.”
“I’m most looking forward to just meeting new people, you know. To have that atmosphere where you don’t have mom or dad around and you can make your own decisions. I’m just excited to meet new people, have fun and hopefully play a lot of baseball and move on to a four-year school.”
“My proudest moment would have to be hitting the three-run homer last year to tie the game up against Rifle. Then we came back to win. That was the greatest part about my high school baseball career.”
“I’m probably going to miss, you know, everything. I’ll miss the small-town atmosphere, snowboarding at Sunlight every weekend, all my friends. I’ve lived in Glenwood my whole life, pretty much. All 18 years.”
