Colorado lawmakers to debate car registration cost increase

DENVER, Colorado ” Lawmakers are getting ready to debate a proposed $25 increase in car registration fees to raise money for roads and bridges.

The proposal will get its first hearing at the state Capitol on Monday during the final full week of the session.

Senate Bill 244 would also raise car ownership taxes on some older vehicles and tack a $6-a-day fee on all rental cars.

The fees are projected to raise more than $300 million a year.
