Colorado man falls off paddleboard, drowns in Eggleston Lake
GRAND JUNCTION — A Colorado man has drowned after falling off a paddleboard on a Grand Mesa lake.
The Daily Sentinel reports 44-year-old Larry Smith Jr. fell into Eggleston Lake on Tuesday evening.
Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee says the lake is still extremely cold, but that he doesn’t know if temperature was a factor in Smith’s death.
McKee says Smith had a life jacket with him, but wasn’t wearing it. He says friends tried to get him out of the water, but were unsuccessful.
Smith’s body was able to be retrieved. Delta County Coroner Lance Boren says his family has been notified.
McKee says Boren is still examining Smith’s death, but witness interviews indicate alcohol was not a factor.
