Commissioners to talk oil and gas Monday

Donna Gray

Oil and gas issues will yet again be topic of conversation among the Garfield County commissioners Monday. The county’s two top natural gas producers, EnCana and Williams Production, will come before the commissioners to get their blessing for three pipelines. Williams proposes a 6-inch natural gas pipeline running one mile along County Road 215. EnCana plans 20-inch and 10-inch pipelines within the right of way of County Road 300. The company is also asking to use the old Una bridge west of Parachute to suspend the line. Also under discussion will be the county’s role in the comment period now underway for the Roan Plateau EIS. Randy Russell said the public comment period ends on March 4, at which time BLM will compile all the comments and analyze them. It will then schedule a joint meeting with “cooperating partners,” the towns of Parachute and Rifle, Garfield County, Rio Blanco County and the Colorado Division of Natural Resources to explore consensus options on a final alternative,” Russell said. The final version of the EIS is expected to be published sometime next fall.Monday’s meeting begins at 8 a.m. with an opportunity for the public to address the commissioners. At 10:15 a.m., the commissioners will hold a public hearing on an update from the White River National Forest. After a break for lunch, the meeting will resume at 1 p.m. At that time, citizens can again address the commissioners on any topic. At 1:15 p.m., the commissioners will consider plat amendments for the Antlers Orchard development.
