Commit yourself to a commission

For anyone who has ever thought of getting involved in the local political process, now might be the right time. Glenwood Springs is looking for people to fill positions on its various boards, committees and commissions.

“There are several openings. We’re still advertising for the airport,” Glenwood Springs City Clerk Robin Clemons said.

The airport committee she referred to is an ad hoc group being formed to determine the best use for the land beneath the Glenwood Springs Municipal Airport.

“There’s no specific number of members,” she said.

The only qualification members must have is interest in the airport. Seven applications have been received so far.

“There are some pilots who don’t live in the city, so we encourage everyone to apply,” she said.

Other vacancies include one seat on the Building Contractors Licensing Board; an alternate position on the Financial Advisory Board; three vacancies and an alternate seat on the Housing for Tomorrow Commission; an alternate seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission – a position that would include being a member of the Board of Adjustment and Appeals; and an alternate seat on the Victims Assistance Law Enforcement Board.

Applicants for most of these boards and commissions must be residents who live within the city limits of Glenwood Springs. Each board meets once a month at various times.

“This is an excellent opportunity for people to become involved with the community,” Clemons said.
