Dates and locations for Grand River flu shots were mixed up in a brief that ran in the Post Independent on Monday. Grand River Hospital and Medical Center will be hosting a flu shot clinic on Thursday, Sept. 29, and Friday, Sept. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Grand River Clinic in Battlement Mesa, located at 73 Sipprelle Drive. The Primary Care Clinic, located at 501 Airport Road in Rifle, will also host a flu shot clinic the following week on Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7. The Frontier Historical Society and Museum, located at 10th and Colorado, will be closed the week of Sept. 26 for fall cleaning and exhibit changes. We will re-open Monday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. Winter hours will be Monday and Thursday through Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Museum staff will begin taking reservations for Ghost Walk tickets on Monday, Oct. 3. The town of Carbondale is holding a household hazardous waste day on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot on the northeast corner of Fourth Street and Colorado Avenue across from Town Hall.
Items accepted are batteries, oil-based paint, cleaning supplies, anti-freeze, oil, solvents, aerosols and tires.
Radioactive materials, explosives, ammunition, biohazards, propane tanks, electronic waste, fire extinguishers and commercial waste are not accepted.
In-town residents are free for the above items. Out-of-town residents are $25. All auto tires are $4 each, larger tires are $10 each. $5 extra per tire if on rims.
Please watch for rusty or leaking containers. Label containers and place in a plastic lined box if necessary. Items should be transported in your vehicle trunk. Latex paint that is dry can be disposed of with your regular trash.

Bargains will be plentiful at the upcoming used book sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. The sale will be held from Oct. 1 – 8. Don’t miss the special preview for Friends members on Friday, Sept. 30, from 5 – 7 p.m. Memberships are available at the door.
Visit the sale often and choose from more than 15,000 used hardback and paperback books, conveniently sorted by category. New items will be added throughout the week. The sale opens at 10 a.m. each day except Sunday, when it begins at 1 p.m.
