Slow Food Roaring Fork/Aspen and Restaurant SIX89 chef/owner Mark Fischer are sponsoring the ninth annual Summer Harvest Social on Monday, Aug. 27, at 689 Main St. in Carbondale. The evening, a benefit for Slow Food Roaring Fork, features a lineup of Colorado’s best chefs each preparing a course highlighting and inspired by local ingredients.

Cash bar and silent auction begin at 6 p.m., and dinner begins promptly at 7 p.m. The price is an inclusive $115 for Slow Food Roaring Fork/Aspen members and $135 for nonmembers, comprising dinner, wine pairings, taxes and gratuities. All proceeds from the event will benefit Slow Food Roaring Fork/Aspen, the local chapter of Slow Food USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of traditional and artisan foods and the advocacy of sustainability.

Learn Spanish naturally and easily without traditional classroom pressure. This 10-week class will get you moving, laughing and learning Spanish fast. Our experienced Spanish instructor, Courtney Madden, will cover high-frequency vocabulary words, basic pronunciation and mix in a sprinkling of grammar. This class will be taught in an oral/hands-on format. There is no textbook to purchase and no previous experience is expected. This class will get you started communicating in Spanish. No tests, no pressure … just fun.

This class is designed for adults and will meet at the Glenwood Springs Community Center on Tuesday mornings from 8:30-9:45 a.m. beginning Sept. 11 and running through Nov. 13. Cost for this great class is $65 member / $81 nonmember. Preregistration is required by Friday, Sept. 7.

Teens are invited to join us at the New Castle Branch Library, 402 W. Main, for the library’s first ever Teen Book Club. We will be discussing Douglas Adams’ “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12. Bank of Colorado branches throughout the state are accepting donations to support the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. This fund will help Colorado families affected by disasters like the Colorado wildfires. Bank of Colorado will collect donations and match these funds collected up to a total of $15,000 through Aug. 31.
