Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO

Defiance is proud to present “Urinetown:The Musical” on Nov. 9-11 and 16-18.

Often called “the musical theatre lovers musical,” this comedic romp parodies musicals such as “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Big River,” “Miss Saigon,” and “Les Miserables.”

Auditions are being held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Glenwood Springs HS. Bring 16-32 bars of an uptempo song to sing with a pianist. Wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes. A prepared monologue isn’t necessary since scenes from the “Urinetown” script will be read.

Help is also needed for shift, construction, costumes, etc. Either show up at auditions or call Jacquie Meitler at 970-945-2174 or Chip Winn Wells at 970-379-5940.

The Roaring Fork Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1016 Cooper Ave. in Glenwood Springs. The program will be a one-hour video titled “Conquest” that continues a video series titled “Guns, Germs and Steel.” It is a National Geographic video based on the Pulitzer prize-winning bestseller by Jared Diamond that explores the fascinating connections between geography, technology and global human development spanning 13,000 years of struggle and conquest. Anyone interested is invited to attend. For information, call Cynthia at 401-3533.
