The Glenwood Springs Chapter of Heartbeat – Support for Survivors After Suicide will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the First United Methodist Church, 824 Cooper St. The group is open to anyone who has ever suffered the loss of a loved one through suicide. This peer group does not provide or replace therapy; it is a safe place for mutual support. Use the Bethel Chapel entrance of the church located at 824 Cooper St.

New Castle Family Fitness is hosting a farewell party for Dave and Jo Lee, 32-year residents of New Castle. The couple is moving to the Midwest to be near their children. Vic’s Route 6 is hosting the Marr Family Team Dinner and Benefit from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12. The silent auction includes artwork, restaurant and store gift certificates, wine, and more. The benefit also features a drawing for Denver Broncos tickets. Literacy Outreach is a local nonprofit teaching essential literacy skills to adults one word at a time. Make a difference in the new year by teaching someone basic literacy skills. Literacy Outreach will provide interested volunteers with information regarding the requirements and rewards at a volunteer informational session from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. Volunteers do not need to speak another language.

Garfield County parents are invited to register their families for the 15-week Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP) starting in January. The class enhances empathy, self-worth, empowerment and discipline as parents and children have fun and grow closer as a family. Space is limited, and the program is offered at no cost to participants.
