All county libraries closed Presidents DayAll Garfield County libraries will be closed Monday in observance of Presidents Day.A previously announced Preschool Pix session scheduled for the Rifle Library on that date has been cancelled.Party for Spuhler The New Castle Branch Library will host an open house/going away party for Jaci Spuhler, Garfield County Library Director, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday.Rifle Relay for Life kickoffThe Rifle area Relay For Life Kickoff celebration is at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Garfield Re-2 Learning Opportunities Center. The 2006 Rifle Area Relay For LIfe will be July 14 and 15 at the Rifle High School track.Energy Career EveningSponsors Garfield School District No. 16 and Colorado Mountain College present an Energy Career Evening from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Grand Valley Educational Career Center, 281 Parachute Ave., in Parachute.Representatives from Halliburton, Shell, EnCana and Williams Production, among others, will be present to discuss their companies’ forecasts for the future, their specific employee needs in Western Colorado, and how students can prepare for careers in the energy industry.Everyone is invited; you do not need to be a student to attend.Spellbinders trainingA training workshop for new Valley Spellbinders will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, Friday, Feb. 24, and Wednesday, March 1, at the Eagle County Building in El Jebel. Spellbinders trains volunteer storytellers for schools, libraries and other facilities serving children in the Roaring Fork Valley. Spellbinders volunteers tell stories in the oral tradition, making eye-to-eye contact and heart-to-heart contact with children that stimulates their imagination and encourages their reading, writing and verbal skills. We are all storytellers at heart, and everyone is welcome to attend. Two local CPAs are volunteering their time for this site. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Saturday through April 15. Call (970) 285-9480 for appointments. Walk-ins will be taken only if there is no appointment for that hour.Clients must present a picture ID and bring Social Security cards for spouses and dependents, a copy of the 2004 tax return, as well as all relevant tax documents to their appointment. Both spouses must be present to sign the return before it is electronically filed.Business workshop in Spanish The Northwest Colorado region of the Colorado Small Business Development Centers Network (SBDC) is pleased to announce its collaboration with Marty Martinez, co-owner or Rio Vista Services and Western Slope Immigration Services. Friday’s events will be alpine and snowboarding competitions at Sunlight Mountain Resort.The Saturday events will be cross-country and snowshoeing competitions held at Argonaut Farms, 7101 County Road 117. The Glenwood Springs Kiwanis Club is looking for volunteers for the events to be timers, starters, course marshals and cheerleaders.Those interested in helping out are asked to please contact Jeff Neer at 384-2444, or Dan Niedbalski at 625-7059. Volunteer registration will begin at 8:30 each morning.Sonlight Foursquare Church concertSonlight Foursquare Church will host Steve Desmond in concert at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at 0355 Mitchell Creek Road in West Glenwood Springs.Steve Desmond is a Christian vocalist from Greeley.
