Registration for kindergarten classes for the 2010-2011 school year will begin Friday, April 9, and run through Friday, April 16. Registration packets and information can be picked up at the office in the main building at Glenwood Springs Elementary School.The child’s birth certificate, record of immunizations, and emergency contact numbers are required. Children must be 5 years old by Oct. 1. Parents need to indicate if they wish to enroll the child in full-day or half-day classes. There is a tuition payment required for the full-day class with a nonrefundable deposit of $333 required at time of registration.There will be an open house in the kinder classrooms on Thursday, April 8, from 6-6:30 p.m. followed by an informational meeting for parents in the library from 6:30-7:15 p.m. Child care will be provided.Call 384-5450 for more information.

The Valley View Hospital Community Health Fair will be Saturday, April 10, from 7-11 a.m. at the Roaring Fork High School in CarbondaleBlood chemistry $40 (includes thyroid, cholesterol, cardiac risk, blood sugar, kidney and liver function), prostate specific antigen $30, blood count $15, colorectal kit $10. Requires fasting 12 hours before blood draw. Blood draw for 18 and older.

For information, call 625-4978 or 625-2369.Arts scholarship winners’ receptionFriday, April 9, is a big day for the arts in our valley – scholarship winners for the Glenwood Springs Art Guild annual competition will be announced and celebrated in conjunction with the opening reception for the “All Members Spring Exhibit” at the Center for the Arts beginning at 6 p.m. Come support our high school seniors for this grand event, and enjoy the plethora of quality art displayed by the Art Guild members. All works are for sale, and proceeds will support our local Center for the Arts. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and the event is free and open to the public. Come celebrate the arts and join the Art Guild on April 9, 6-9 p.m. at the Center for the Arts in Glenwood Springs.

State District 61 Rep. Kathleen Curry will hold a pair of Garfield County events on Saturday, April 10.She will be in Carbondale for a Meet & Greet forum from 11 a.m. to noon at River Valley Ranch Clubhouse, 444 River Valley Ranch Drive. Carbondale residents can stop by and ask questions on legislative matters or her decision to change her party affiliation, or with concerns and ideas.Curry will then head to New Castle for another Meet & Greet forum from 2-3 p.m. at Patti’s Main Street Coffee House 285 W. The Friends of the Gordon Cooper Library announce their Spring Book Sale, Thursday, April 8, through Monday, April 19, at the Carbondale library. Everyone is invited to come browse the amazing collection of books donated to the library since the fall book sale. All proceeds from the book sale are used by the friends to enhance the library’s collection and expand the programming budget in Carbondale. Parents and children are invited to meet the teachers, learn about kinder programs, and ask questions at the Crystal River Elementary School Kindergarten Information Night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 8 at the school, 160 Snowmass Drive in Carbondale. Come join a community Contra Dance Saturday, April 10, from 8-10:30 p.m. at Glenwood Springs Elementary School. Dance to lively, old-time music performed by the Last Minute String Band. This month’s caller is Richard Meyers from Denver.He’ll teach square, contra, and line dances, as well as the polka and waltzes. It’s fun, nonalcoholic, aerobic and no partner necessary.Beginners should arrive by 7:30 p.m. for a 30-minute dance walk-through. The school is located at 915 School St. in Glenwood Springs. The Roaring Fork Combat Veterans support group meets every Monday at 8 p.m. at the Circle Club, 123 Main St., Carbondale.This is a safe place to share, be understood, discover forgiveness, find relief, and renew the camaraderie forged only through combat.
