Rehearsals begin next week for the Aspen Choral Society’s 33rd annual holiday performance of Handel’s “Messiah.”Glenwood Springs chorus rehearsals will be on Mondays beginning Nov. 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 824 Cooper Ave. Aspen rehearsals will be on Sundays beginning Nov. 7, from 4-6 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church on Main Street in Aspen.All singers are invited; there is no audition.Concerts will be Dec. 7 and 8 in Glenwood Springs and Dec. 10 and 11 in Aspen. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park will begin its winter hours on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The park will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday through Monday and will be closed Tuesday through Thursday. The park will be open the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and daily Dec. 17 through Jan. 3, except for Christmas Day. Thunder River Theatre Company welcomes the community to join in celebrating its free El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration. The celebration will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. at the theatre, located in downtown Carbondale between 4th and 6th Streets and Main Street and Colorado Avenue, across from the town’s recreation center. The Day of the Dead is a grand celebration of life that will include students from Roaring Fork High School’s Community Liaison Program, overseen by Ivone Munoz and Nadya Williams, as well as Dan Pittz and his Colorado Rocky Mountain School advanced Spanish Class participating in this year’s celebration. Aspen Santa Fe’s Folklorico Dancers will be back. As always, there will be special readings by TRTC actors, along with songs and special decorations. This special event is supported, in part, through the generosity of the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the Aspen Community Foundation, and the Colorado Creative Industries (a state agency, and the NEA.) The Garfield County Clerk’s offices in Glenwood Springs and the Rifle Annex will be closed for all regular business, except recording, on Tuesday, Nov. 2, for the election. The election department will be open, and all staff in both clerk’s offices will be helping with the election.

If you are unemployed, you may be interested in joining a support group to help with the emotional issues surrounding unemployment and also discussion of skills important in securing employment. This is a no cost series being offered by Roaring Fork Counseling here in Glenwood Springs. All are welcome. Please call 945-2956 for information and to RSVP. The group is held Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m.
