On Sunday, Dec. 12, a the Rifle Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, choirs from Grand Valley and Rifle will continue their tradition of presenting a free Christmas concert. This year’s participants include The Awakening Chorus (Grand Valley United Methodist Church), the St. Mary Sanctuary Choir (St. Mary Catholic Church, Rifle), choirs from the Rifle Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and other talented singers from our Western Slope communities. All choirs will join together for an ensemble presentation of choruses from Handel’s “Messiah.” Church doors will open at 6 p.m. for public viewing of a remarkable collection of nativity scenes on display in the Rifle Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 16th and Birch streets. Refreshments will be served after the concert. For more information, call 625-2333.

The Mountain Madrigal Singers present their 30th annual Christmas concert, “A Family Christmas,” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, and Saturday, Dec. 18.The free concerts take place at the First United Methodist Church, 824 Cooper Ave. in Glenwood Springs.The Mountain Madrigal Singers are local volunteer singers and instrumentalists who gather each year in Glenwood Springs to offer a free Christmas concert. Through 30 seasons, the Mountain Madrigals have seen more than 100 individual members. Songs range from traditional classics like “Away in a Manger,” and “The First Noel” to multicultural treats in multiple languages, to upbeat swing style songs like “North Pole Rock and Roll.”The concerts are handicapped accessible, and babysitting is provided for small children.
