Glenwood Medical Associates is hosting two free informational meetings on the LIFESTEPS program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 and Thursday, April 2, in the clinic lobby.The LIFESTEPS Weight Management Program teaches small groups of adults to successfully take gradual steps toward changing their eating and physical activity behaviors. Participants learn about nutrient needs, portion sizes, the benefits of moderate physical activity, and how to manage high-risk eating situations. Carbondales Boy Scout Troop 235 is hosting a fundraiser at Arbys in Glenwood Springs from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 31. Have dinner at Arbys on this night and ask for a scout coupon. A portion of the evenings proceeds will go to the scouts who are trying to earn money for camps and next years National Jamboree.
Literacy Outreach is looking for volunteers to tutor people who are eager to improve their reading, writing and math or English-speaking skills. Volunteers need at least two hours of time a week to work one-on-one with an adult, the ability to read and speak English, and a desire to help someone who wants to learn.Volunteer information sessions will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 30, and again at noon Tuesday, March 31 at the Comfort Inn in Carbondale; and at 6 p.m. March 31 at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. These informal and brief presentations will provide details about Literacy Outreach’s volunteer tutoring program. Please call Literacy Outreach at 945-5282 for more information.
The Green Car Convoy will be in Glenwood Springs at at 1 p.m. March 26 at Strawberry Park. A convoy of 4-6 fuel-efficient, hybrid or clean diesel cars will traverse 790 miles over four days to showcase the latest green cars, while a total of 100 green cars, from 40 participating Colorado dealers, will appear along the route and join the convoy in each city stop. Each city stop will last about one hour. Sponsored by the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association, the Statewide Green Car Convoy will demonstrate fuel efficient technologies in environmentally-friendly cars currently available for purchase from local dealerships.
