The Rifle Elks Club will host a barbecue fundraiser before the Rifle High School homecoming football game this Friday, Oct. 2, from 4-6:30 p.m.All proceeds will go to a scholarship fund that will benefit local students.

Community radio station KDNK hosts a “town hall meeting” with national radio commentator and author Jim Hightower, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School Barn.There will also be a special VIP meet-and-greet with Hightower at 5:30 p.m. at Flying Dog Ranch, for current and new KDNK members at the sustainable level ($250) or above. Thursday’s event will also be aired live on KDNK. For more information, call 963-0139.

On Saturday, Oct. 3, there will be a silent auction, raffle and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Silt fire station to help Colleen Steuben with her recent medical expenses. Colleen has been fighting lymphoma cancer and has recently undergone chemotherapy. Elk Creek Mining Co. restaurant in New Castle will donate 10 percent of that day’s proceeds to the family, which also includes Colleen’s husband Kevin and her daughters Samantha and Amanda. Donations can also be made to the Steuben Family benefit at any Alpine Bank.Anyone wishing to donate items to the silent auction can contact Jennifer Stepisnik at 309-4451.
